Here’s the problem with “both sidesing” the chaos that was the Republican Oversight hearing.

Republicans VOTED in cmte to allow the rhetoric that was used against Ms. Crockett last night.

Notice that when Dems have the majority, these things don’t happen.

It also gets worse…

Remember: the hearing was about contempt proceedings - otherwise known as a “markup hearing,” where the full committee must vote at the end.

In markups, both parties offer amendments. This is standard. Amendments are voted on and then the full proposal.

Dems had 7 amendments.

This is where the GOP chaos matters.

AFTER the Republican Chair and GOP members broke official House protocol to allow MTG’s horrific opening silo of rhetoric, they THEN made another change to dispense with the legislative process.

THAT part is not getting enough attention.

They THEN did something highly unusual and still unclear to me how legitimate it was - they cut off the *rest of the amendment process,* end all legislative debate, and cut straight to a vote on their text without standard procedure.

Needless to say, this is not normal at all.

You see, this is the microcosm of what authoritarians do on a larger scale.

ID a vulnerable person/community that’s easier to break the rules towards, normalize it (often w/ “both sides” rhetoric), and then use that rule-breaking to undermine deeper processes and rule of law.

That’s why this stuff isn’t just all-sides chaos, or mere distraction, or a pox on everyone’s house.

They WANT you to think this was some random devolution of conduct instead of a structured GOP outcome.

We must understand who and what actions created the situation. It matters.

But it's not about advancing the dialogue.

What dialogue? What could a cast led by MTG possibly contribute to anything? Details about space lasers? Proof that it was Hunter Biden who killed Vince Foster and master-minded the attack on 11 September 2001?

I meant that in a more general sense. Not just our politicians but our society.

Some people are upset about the scene from Oversight Committee last night, well I’m upset and disgusted pretty much everyday at the Democrat controlled DOJ, federal government, and Congress in general.

The Democrat DOJ is weaponized against us. They want to put Pres Trump in jail the rest of his life which is a death sentence!

They are throwing people in prison by the thousands for years for protesting the 2020 election but ignore their own paid criminal rioters.

They put Peter Navarro in prison and will soon put Steve Bannon in prison because of Nancy Pelosi’s corrupt January 6th Committee that broke House rules and hired an ABC TV producer to put on their prime time nightly hearings of LIES.

The Democrats are the same people who voted to kill unborn babies up until the day of birth and they would march us all in front of a firing squad if they could.

Congress has enslaved the American people in over $34 TRILLION in debt and that will be over $55 TRILLION in only 10 years.

Washington DC only cares about funding and fighting foreign wars while fully and cowardly refusing to fight the war waged against the American people at our own southern border.

Pardon me if I don’t talk as nicely as some people would like to hear.

I’m not going to keep you all addicted to outrage and hopium that never solves a problem or stops the inevitable implosion of the United States of America.

I’m completely over it.

How ridiculous is it that the Speaker runs his mouth about decorum when our opposition refuses to follow it at all.

These aren’t attacks on personalities. These are just facts.

Jamie Raskin describing how the proceedings were postponed from 11 am because certain Republicans went on a "mass spiritual pilgrimage" to the NYC trial of "a Florida man, an adjudicated fraudster and rapist" who faces 34 felony counts of falsifying financial records to cover up his payment of $130,000 of hush money to a porn star that he had had sexual relations with.

He notes that some people "churlishly" think that they should be at DC to vote, and not to suffer some last-minute change of schedule, but his colleagues "demonstrated for all of history their fierce devotion to this clearly reformed devout and pious Florida spiritual leader," someone that some people call "the Messiah from Mar-a-Lago."

Meh. Churchill's government suspended scheduled general elections, every year, between November 1940 and the end of the war.

Suspending elections when there's a war on is a normal, expected, and honourable path for a democracy that is fighting for its survival.

If Ukraine doesn't hold free and fair elections within a year of winning the war, then we can talk about whether or not the country remains a democracy.
