Netanyahu has done some very questionable stuff, such as the attempted permanent displacement of the Gazans into Egypt.
It hasn't been attempted, only discussed. But perhaps it would not be so bad. Israel could buy much of the Sinai from Egypt and cede it to "Palestine" in exchange for it giving up territorial claims in Judea, Samaria and Gaza. Sinai is ~10x bigger than Judea, Samaria and Gaza put together.
And now, it appears Israel is
cleansing attack sites. Now, I understand, the mess must be cleaned up. But they can't clean up the sites without accounting for the dead that were there while cleaning it up.
It appears that Israel can't do anything without nefarious motives being alleged. In one article it is said that there are >60Mt of debris and rubble that will take years and billions of dollars to clean up. And in articles like this, Israel is condemned for clearing rubble and debris at its own expense.
It's a very one sided article too, not worthy of a Canadian public news channel.
Note however that much of the clearance is in order to have space for IDF military bases. These bases would not need to be there to begin with had Gaza not attacked Israel.
Hamas isn't some sort of magical "diplomatic immunity" or "national security" card that can be waved around to justify any and all actions taken by Israel/Israeli military.
It does justify a lot though. Especially when Hamas (and allies) operate from civilian areas, these areas naturally become a target. For example, when
a rocket launcher is placed amidst the tents (look at the first frame, or you'll miss it and Middle East Eye does not mention there being a launcher there of course), the people in those tents are endangered because of actions of Hamas. Same goes for
a Hamas leader stockpiling explosives amidst tents (see the secondary explosion) or
other leaders hiding out in tunnels under a hospital.
And of course, starting this war was Hamas' choice.
Hamas committed an atrocity. And now large swaths of Gaza are uninhabitable. And it didn't destroy Hamas.
But it is significantly weakened. And the reason it wasn't destroyed is because it enjoys a lot of support among Gazan and wider Palestinian population. That makes those people complicit.
And even Mossad's beeper attack on Hezbollah merely slowed down Hezbollah. Israel took revenge for the October massacre, but it sure the heck didn't provide justice nor make Israel safer.
I disagree about justice. I also disagree about Israel not being safer. If Israel's enemies are weaker, then Israel is safer.
