California Doing California Things

“Homeless” numbers increased in Los Angeles.

With The Felon in office what do you expect?

The Republican mantra is blame everything on Democrats. Do not solve problems, do not permit problems to be solved.

Since Los Angeles California is run and managed by a monopoly of Democrats......who else should the Republicans be blaming for this problem??? WTF does Trump have to do with California?

I could see your point if democracy was really practiced in L.A. But it is 1 party monopoly rule from the governor all the way down to the dog catcher.

And the solution to this problem is obvious. Just allow the already rich to build more homes! No need for local government to spend money or graft more money to their friends. All they need to do is leave people alone long enough to build more homes. That way all the real estate becomes cheaper until the homeless can afford shelter. But true democrats can't leave people alone and let people build more homes.

Who are you kidding? The Democrats, who have had monopoly rule for over a decade, and majority rule for decades more, still blame Reagan for closing mental hospitals in the 1960s. It is almost as if it is easier to blame someone than to do something.

Perhaps Tswizzle would like to clarify, in specific terms, what he wants Governor Newsom to do to this woman?
I'm not Tswizzle and this must be a trick question anyway because the response seems perfectly obvious to me.

Governor Newsom probably does not have unobstructed jurisdiction to deal directly with this woman. But he could and should be calling on local politicians and administrators from his party to deliver what they do have the power to do. To wit:

1) Make sure that local private and public property is protected under local rules
2) Make sure local obscenity, quality of life, and sanitation laws are in place
3) Make sure violators are prosecuted regardless of sex or race

That is what good governance looks like. But not what you will ever see from democrats.

So you believe in a top-down governance system in which the state governor is heavily involved in defining local laws? Right down to what civic level nuisance or sanitation policies look like, and how local police departments run their daily operations?

Has it occurred to you that giving the California governorship monarchic authority to micromanage Californian lives would almost certainly result in all of those policies being Democrat-flavored, not Republican-flavored, even in cities and towns where the majority of voters aren't Democrats and don't approve of the changes he's forcing on them?

I do not agree that a governor handing out direcr orders to city councils sounds like "good governance", that sounds fundamentally anti-republican to me And I think California is and should remain a republic, just like it says on our flag. Autocracy has been tried in country after country after country, in century after century. It always ends in flames.

Ah, speaking of governors, our future governor has pledged to abolish the Department of Motor Vehicles and have AI handle registration tasks via an online portal from now on! What could possibly go wrong?

Republicans need to decide whether they are autocrats or anarchists, it's going to give people whiplash the way they yo-yo between negligence and presumption.

I will give Hilton one thing. He has been actually campaigning, doing town halls, visiting even "unfriendly" districts and letting people yell at him. Becerra doesn't bother, refusing to so much as comment to the press on most issues, let alone talk to a common citizen about them. He's a useless corporate plant, like we always get in the end... Sacramento's principal crop, one might argue.

Well we had a taste of what happens when a democrat governor has monarchic authorty during covid.

No kings, indeed.
And you liked it?

Well, what's your point? You got two options. Either the governor is directly responsible for local municipal policy, or he isn't. You mock my position, but you're too much of a coward to voice your own.

Right now, he isn't. The governor can make a statement during Public Comment like any other citizen, but that's it. And that's all it should be. Sacramento is an administrative center, not a national capitol.

The people of Los Angeles vote for this.

The Los Angeles City Council has rescinded camping bans on a dozen locations in Hollywood, Echo Park and Silver Lake at the urging of the area’s council member, who called the bans ineffective in addressing homelessness. “Displacing our neighbors from block to block, or in many cases from district to district, doesn’t help them find housing,” said Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez in asking his colleagues to remove the camping ban. “In most cases, it makes it much harder for us to help them because they lose their belongings, they get fined, and many times they are arrested. To me, that is a policy that does not work.” The motion was approved on a 10-3 vote at Tuesday’s council meeting, with Imelda Padilla, Traci Park and Monica Rodriguez dissenting. Soto-Martínez said he believed it was the first instance of an encampment ban being rescinded. Councilmembers Ysabel Jurado, Eunisses Hernandez and Nithya Raman, who is challenging Mayor Karen Bass in the Nov. 3 election, have also voted repeatedly against new no-encampment zones sought by their colleagues. Hollywood resident Shane Swerdlow criticized the council’s action, saying it will create a safety risk for people living near encampments. The 38-year-old land use consultant lives near the Las Palmas Senior Center, one of the areas stripped of its no-camping ban. “When things get truly chaotic, and the senior center can no longer function for its intended purpose as a safe gathering place for seniors, I think it’s critical to also have 41.18 as an available tool to do enforcement,” Swerdlow said Wednesday.

But it doesn't have to be so

The mayor of Santa Ana took to social media this week to share the latest homeless outreach and enforcement efforts in the city, where the unhoused either accept services that include shelter and help with addiction or go to jail. Mayor Valerie Amezcua said in a TikTok post that several agencies partner each month to work with the unhoused. She said this week that about 80 to 100 people were picked up, provided services, and offered shelter. Orange County passed its anti-camping ordinance last November, and the City of Santa Ana continues to address homelessness to "improve quality of life." "We're offering them services, whether it's detox, a shelter program, and if they refuse all the services, then they end up going to jail," Amezcua said. "Because Santa Ana deserves a good quality of life, just like all the other cities around us. "The tougher rules follow the US Supreme Court's 2024 ruling, allowing municipalities to ban camping or sleeping on public property when shelter beds are available. Police say their numbers show that fewer people are living on the streets. The point-in-time count in 2024 was 871 unsheltered citywide. That dropped to 714 people in 2026. In Tuesday's operation to clear the homeless from public areas, 69 were jailed, 11 accepted placement at shelters, and one agreed to be reunified with family.

Seems to me the Libertarian position should be that people should be allowed to live in camp sites on public property.

Effing brilliant. Eleven percent mitigation of Swiz’ nightmare, and 87% of those, were simply jailed.
Typical Republitard socio-fascist engineering. Ineffective and expensive, but satisfyingly cruel.

Republicans are "libertarians" with air quotes, not philosophical libertarians. Ideological consistency is rejected as Wokeism.

I suppose you think that's an unreasonable question? Whether you support one set of solutions, or another? For the very problem you're whining about? Why do you find it so hard to say "yes" or "no"? Even infants who only know ten or twenty words can usually manage a simple yes or no, but you seemingly struggle so hard to produce a clear answer to any question. You can only speak in emojis, of all things. It's fascinating.

I know, of course, that you aren't actually dumber than an infant. You're pretending to be, because you know your worldview is unpalatable.

The cruelty is very much the point when it comes to MAGAtards.

Cruelty is always straining at the bonds of stupidity. Magatards simply follow the mindless laws of nature. Witness the kneejerk responses of our own resident MAGAts. Insufferable pricks, one and all.
