Here we go. More fallout from Trump inanity.

Why Canada is preparing for a (long shot) US invasion

Prime Minister Mark Carney admitted last week that he has prepared for a once-unthinkable scenario - a US invasion.

Noting the risk was low and the likelihood highly improbable, he told the New York Times he had a responsibility to consider all possibilities as the US-Canada relationship is redefined under the Donald Trump presidency.

"That's just risk management," Carney said.

Trump's global tariffs and his often-repeated desire to make Canada the 51st state has led Canada to war game an attack by the Americans.

In 2025, the US president said it was "highly unlikely" that the US would ever use force against Canada. Instead he said, he would continue to exert economic pressures to obtain political aims.

"President Trump has done more than anyone to protect the great people of Canada," the White House told the BBC in a statement this week.

Military experts who spoke to the BBC also think an invasion is a long shot, pointing to the multiple ways the two countries work together on defence.

But the issue is clearly weighing on Canadians' minds.

Canada would be stupid not to have a plan to defend against a possible Trump military attack on Canada. Fuck, Trump threatened to "take" greenland.

Trump is an insane asshole. He would do it if he thought that it was good for him. Need to make sure that Trump understands that attacking Canada would not be good for him. That's all he understands. The fuckwit.

All countries have plans for invasion by, or invasion of, ALL of their neighbours, and plenty of more distant nations.

Any military that didn't have such plans would be derelict in their duty.

If nothing else, they provide excellent training exercises for war planners.

I would be astonished if Canada didn't have plans for invasion by the USA, updared at least annually, for well over half a century now, likely over a century.

Since both countries are in NATO, US would have to fight itself.
Moreover all the rest of the NATO including Mighty Baltic Tigers would have to send troops to help...... both sides :)

No. You have been told countless times that NATO is a defensive pact. It's remarkable how dense a person needs to be to read something at least 50 times in the Russia-Ukraine thread and still not get it.

NATO will only help the side defending itself. That's why peaceful nations don't fear NATO. Only psychopathic states intent on murdering their neighbors have need to fear NATO.

Canada will get all of NATO's help in the event the US attacks.

If I was Canada I would have put troops along the border months ago.

On the other hand, if Rump invaded Canada, I would expect to see our troops rebelling, or large numbers of Canadian citizens themselves fighting back, or both.

Ever since the war of 1812.
There was talk of invading Canada then. There were battles on both sides of the great lakes. They still teach it as a US invasion of Canada. We don't. We only concentrate on the Brits burning the White House.

Are there any Canadians here on IIDB? Speak up.

That was the question of Greenland. The purging in the Military is certainly a worrying sign of getting rid of people that the Trump Admin will know say "NO!" Of course, Trump has yet to manage to put in a stooge (after trying twice) as the Fed Chairman.

Upper/Lower Canada. Canada doesn't exist until 1841.

They apologized for that... said they were sorry. ;)

I'd say 1861-1865 sparked a bit of concern for Canada. It wasn't a primary reason for Confederation in 1867, but it certainly couldn't have been unimportant as well. I can't imagine the US would invade Canada. There is a tiny issue with that... the US lacks the military to do it. Yes, the US can bomb places, but the US can not occupying spaces. And Canada is freaking huge! If Canada needed to, they can ruin the lock system in the St Lawrence, bomb crossings over the gorges of the Niagara. As we've seen with Iraq and Afghanistan, occupation is *checks notes* "Hard work". One doesn't have to occupy much of Canada, but you'd have to occupy enough that would need a draft. And like in the game of Risk, you can only cover so much global territory.

So while Canada definitely has plans in hand for the US going el loco that would include cutting power to the US in Ontario and Quebec and possibly considering scorched earthing Niagara and St. Lawrence crossings, the US would really really be insane to attack the country. The US would easily overpower the Canadian military, but to what gain?

Don't forget Alberta and their election coming shortly to see whether they should have an election on seceding from Canada. Danielle Smith is a Poilievre-lite, who is a Trump-lite. They think life isn't fair because they contribute to Canada's good fortune but don't get enough for it... so they want to pretend that oil will always be expensive and they can afford to leave the nation. The conservative movement in Canada is so full of shit, which is how Poilievre managed to blow the 2025 cake-walk election. The conservatives in government in Canada are trying to be as full of shit as the American conservatives in Government, but it isn't selling as well in Canada.

If Canada needed to, they can ruin the lock system in the St Lawrence,
Welcome To The New Straight Of Our Moose!

The Niagara power plants will be the first things captured. The invaders will cross the Niagara river ABOVE the falls, or close to the lake. No gorge between Buffalo and NF. Practically no gorge between Lewiston and Lake amerika ONTARIO. The gorge is only 1/4 of that border.
It is more likely they will just blockade the ports. It's all about trade after all.

the US would really really be insane to attack the country.
Lets stop talking about the US attacking Canada. Tell it like it is. It is Donnie Rump who attacks friends. And he is no longer sane.

but to what gain?
For the greater glory of our Supreme Leader, of course.

Canada's anti-invasion preparations are just more of their signature master level trolling, with the goal of giving Trump the opportunity to make new moronic posts.

The United States has invaded Canada three times in the past. None of these worked out well and the first failed invasion was the direct cause of the burning of the White House when British forces captured Washington DC.

I am curious. Can foreign people or foreign owned corporations buy stock in US and Canadian defense industries? I wonder if this is just a ruse for some folks with connections to get a little more money at tax payer expense in the name of defense .

At this point I have no faith that Heggy could hold back the Canadian hordes. They'd probably know our secret war plans from Signal. I'm on Lake Erie, about 70 miles from Canada as the buzzard flies. In other words, the Northern Front.
When war breaks out, I expect Canada will gain control of the lake right off the bat. After all, they've been watching Iran.
Since Trump and Heggy have used up just all of our interceptor weapons since Feb., they'll probably recomission some coal-bearing WWI dreadnoughts and tow them into the lake. Trump will be forced to sign a memorandum early in the war. He'll call it a victory, but it will give Canada complete control of the lake and renaming rights. I'm betting on Lake Horton.
I'm no doubt on the WH watch list for all my snarky posts, so my house will be acquisitioned as a sensitive military outpost. I won't even be here when Johnny Canuck lands on our city beach and the town is taken.
They just better not serve that goddamn poutine in the refugee camps.
