Climate Change(d)?

Meanwhile... I finally got central air because oi... the humidity... my electricity usage dropped a little verses window fans/AC. And that also helped with the smoke too!

Granted, the central air systems are much more efficient today and the dehumidifying it does drop my dehumidifier usage substantially while only needing to cool it down to 75 to be comfy (I don't like warm, but 75 and 45% humidity is definitely great). So using central air and less electricity. Somehow managed to lessen my carbon footprint being more comfortable.

In te news a prediction tat by he end of the century increasing temperatures will seriously diminish rice production.

In te long run I think the air polutiojn probem will take care of itself. Humans will die off.

Abstract

Rice is a staple food for over one billion people in Asia. Understanding rice’s historical thermal limits is critical for predicting its response to future climate shifts. Here, we integrate contemporary records of rice cultivation, archaeological data spanning rice’s long-term history of cultivation, and temperature projections for the past and future to assess how warm temperatures have constrained rice’s distribution and the adaptive strategies used to sustain its production. These thermal limits have remained consistent throughout rice’s domestication history despite its genetic diversification and geographic expansion. Over the past 9000 years, domesticated Asian rice has rarely thrived where mean annual temperature exceeds 28 °C or warm-season maximum temperature exceeds 33 °C. By the end of this century, projections estimate that the land area exceeding these thermal thresholds could expand by ten to thirty times in Asia’s major rice-producing nations. Rice-dependent regions face unprecedented challenges in maintaining this staple crop under projected warming.

I would love to get central air but my breaker panel would need to be upgraded. It's a 100 amp panel and all the slots are full. $8 to $10,000 for a licensed electrician to do the upgrade.

I recall paying only $6k or the like to replace my Federal Pacific death trap and that included adding grounded outlets to my rooms.

It is shaping up to be the worst fire season in Wa on record. Drought and high heat,

Several hundred homes burned inside Spokane city limits.

Winds have kept it away, smoke is now headed for Seattle.

I have a supply of N 95 masks from COVID. They filter smoke particulates. When it gets bad around here it is like a fog, reduced visibility.

If it gets bad I'll turn my box fan into an air filter.

A smoke cloud is dirty air.

Cumulonimbus clouds are the sort of things that make thunderstorms and the like. A pyrocumulonimbus cloud is the same thing--but powered by the fire. It's actual weather.
