It looks to me Trump is trying to find a valuable Greenland resource he can use to negotiate with the Greenlandish parliament in order to gain control over Greenland. All of Greenland is 30 000 people. With plenty of old resentments against Denmark Trump can exploit. 30 000 people can be bought for cheap.

It all just seems to fit how Trump operates

He could do an occupation with very little violence, he could bribe the head politicians, or he could just send in specialists to mine resources under cover of regular troop deployment.

Greenland is not a third world country. Trust me.... under no circumstances will you be able to bribe a Greenlander to do anything not in the interest of all Greenlanders. It's not the culture. There's no way that will happen. It might be the one country on Earth where politicians are honest and take reasonable salaries.

But what could work is if Trump bribes every single Greenlander. They won't see that as bribery. And the Greenlandish parliament is indipendent. If they are given enough money, that's a possibility. And with so few Greenlanders, it won't even be expensive for USA. Greenlanders don't feel especially loyal to Denmark. Denmark has been a problematic overlord in the past. That's what I would do if I was Trump.

That's absolutely a possibility. That sounds like the smart move, so probably what Trump will do.
 
Seems he sent folks in without so much as a by your leave. I see no reason why this rude bully would not simply continue with this same approach until such time as congress stops him. The Texas company who went in, hiring private security (aka mercenaries) would likely be all that is needed to keep the locals at bay. I suppose a US court might, might intervene but I believe their authority on presidential actions outside the US is very limited. Perhaps they would have more latitude acting against the private company hired.


Or this is just another of Trump's endless stream of distractions from his involvement with Epstein.

There are (per AI) some 56,500 people in Greenland. For the cost of a month or two of his Iran adventure, Trump could give every single resident of Greenland a million dollars.
I bet they’d sell, but they might not take faltering US dollars …
