Split New York City Mayoral Race

To notify a split thread.
You asked an unknowable question in bad faith and from the rest of what you wrote it is very reasonably inferred that you believe it was a legitimate possibility if not outright probability that no Jews wanted to be on the commission. You then went on to manufacture an astoundingly stupid prophecy about Derec calling them self hating Jews.
Your entire premise, that Mamdani discriminated against Jews, is also based on an unknowable at this time. Without the list of applicants you cannot know.

At least Derec brings real data when he's trying to prove racism.
Maybe you could explain to everyone how the selection process works. Because I'm not sure myself.
If you're not sure how the process works perhaps it's best not to assume you know how Mamdani made his decisions?

Hell, I'll bet Mamdani could shoot a Jew on 5th Avenue and not lose your vote.
Well, if the Jew is Jared Kuschner…
Not all Jews or black people or Jehovah’s Witlesses are the same.
I believe Jews make up some 45% of court officers in NYC
Obviously Jews are at least 3x over-represented, at inestimable cost to other “minorities”.
So such representation must be reduced, if only for appearances. You don’t want people citing that stat as proof that Jews are trying to take over our courts and legal system, DO YOU??
What are you even on about?

Please say something that makes sense.
Just drawing your illogic to its illogical conclusion. Jews are under-represented on a commission, overrepresented in court officers, and you're complaining about discrimination of Jews on that basis. I'm calling bullshit. Jews are not an ethnicity even. Anyone can join - even Ivanka. There is a stereotype, but Jews, being so rebellious, often refuse to conform to that stereotype. Generally you cant tell one by looking at them unless they're dressed up with the funny hat and everything. It's not like being a bona fide minority that you can run away from because you spotted them from a hundred yards away, like black people. It's more like having red hair or practicing VooDoo.
Jews have been getting special dispensations ever since Nazis leveled unspeakable horrors and crimes against HUMANITY on them. Now they're practicing turnabout with the dreaded Muzzies. All of a piece.
FWIW I was predicting that Jews and Arabs would destroy civilization, back in the 1960s. It has taken a while, but ...

Do people submit an application to the commission, like they were applying for a regular job?

Or does the Mayor select candidates on his own, perhaps through personal knowledge, research or recommendations from advisors? Much in the way a POTUS handpicks his cabinet secretaries?

You seem to assume the former. Receipts?
Instead of asking me to do your work for you, why don't you look it up yourself. If I'm wrong, you can have the satisfaction of proving me wrong.

I think it is odd that Mamdani opted for not even a single Jew on the commission.

I think it is odd that some of the very same posters who complain about identity politics are endorsing it when it comes antisemitism.

I think it is odd that 0 for 18 on a commission is viewed as antisemitism, while a 45% representation in the court system is NOT viewed as over-representation. I think both are the case. I also think that's just the way the cookie bounces, and neither is just cause for hand wringing, nor does either justify calls for redress.

  • Evangelical Protestants: make up about 23% of U.S. adults (or specific sub-segments like white evangelicals at 13–14%).
  • Roman Catholics: account for roughly 19% to 21% of the U.S. population.
  • Mainline Protestants: account for about 11% of U.S. adults.
  • Religiously Unaffiliated ("Nones"): make up roughly 24% to 29% of Americans, representing secular or non-religious individuals rather than a specific religion
Are all the above groups represented on "the commission", or are Jews the only ones left out?
You know what else they were left out of? My query to AI: "What religions are held by 10-20% of Americans?"
Talk about blatant antisemitism!
Maybe it's paranoia about the growth rate of Hasidic and Uber-Orthodox Jewish populations.
They DO have big families ...

Mamdani Excludes Jews From Judicial Commission

Helluva guy. I believe Jews make up some 45% of court officers in NYC, which includes both judges and attorneys, but they're not on the commission. Radicals from the right and left can always be counted on to be united in their hate of Jews.

I wonder what the reaction would be if X "POC" were to be fully excluded from such a commission.
What are the 18 that were nominated or named? Exclusion seems problematic, but all I can find are articles saying no Jewish lawyers.

And that they're fine with "guilty until proven innocent" if the person is on the left and accused of antisemitism.

It's not just that he is on the Left, but his whole history. From co-founding chapter of the extremist SJP while a college student to his present obsession with wanting to arrest Bibi.

Both Derec and Colonel Chicken have stated that Mamdani hates Jews but they cannot understand why Jews might not want to work for such a person.
They would not be working for him personally, but for the City. Which is not a caliphate with Zohran I as the absolute ruler. At least not yet.

Whenever you claim an organization is "extremist" I take it with a grain of salt.

The latter is an overrepresentation of sorts, but that is not necessarily a result of discrimination. There are disproportionate number of blacks in the NBA for example. Probably Jews are more likely to pursue a career in law for whatever reasons.
But not selecting any Jewish lawyers to the commission does seem to defy any other explanation than discrimination. If 45% from the pool the candidates are picked from are X, then randomly and independently selecting 18 individuals who are all not X has a probability of only 0.002%. Even if we don't go by that but by Jewish percentage in the NYC population (11.6%) the chance of randomly selecting no Jewish people is only ~11%. So the chances are that it is not "just the way the cookie bounces", but the deliberate decision of the bigoted mayor.

What percent of Jewish court officers would be willing to be publicly linked to Mamdani, though? Even if they agreed with his policy proposals, would they be willing to face the wrath of people like Derec calling them self-hating Jews and Hamas supporters?
Ah, I see. You can read the minds of all Jewish people and know in advance that none of them would want to be on this commission, and that Derec would be responsible for that.

Please don't give me or anyone else what you're smoking.
Wow.

I ask a question about how many Jewish court officials in New York City would be willing to jump into a political firestorm and you presume I think I can read minds and predict the future?

I don't know what you've been smoking but please don't attempt to drive a car or operate heavy equipment until the effects wear off.

I based that prediction on Derec's reaction to members of Jewish Voice for Peace who participated in the pro-peace demonstrations at Columbia University.

It was history, not prophecy.
Oh sure, it's not the disgusting anti-semitism that Jewish people are worried about. Rather, what they're really afraid of are anonymous people on the internet calling them cowards.

Wow, that's quite a stretch, going from "how many people want to jump into a political firestorm" to "all those people are cowards". Talk about something being unreasonably inferred.

You put forth the unfathomable notion that Mamdani completely excluded Jews because maybe Jews didn't want to be on the committee. There is zero evidence that your suggestion has any merit. Zero.

Hatred and racism are not the sole domain of the American conservative. Carrying water for Mamdani's 0/18 committee proves it.

You put forth the notion that Mamdani excluded Jews, from one committee of 18, in a city of millions of people.
Not everyone is as bigoted as the typical American.

Unfathomable?

You can't understand why people hesitate to volunteer to be on politically charged committees especially if they're not politicians themselves?
Hatred and racism are not the sole domain of the American conservative. Carrying water for Mamdani's 0/18 committee proves it.
Oh, so now I'm carrying water for Mamdani's committee?

Sorry, nope.

You're proving my point, btw. I wondered out loud how many people would be willing to jump into a political firestorm and face the wrath of people like Derec attacking and insulting them and here you are attacking and insulting me, implying I am motivated by hatred and racism, because I commented on volunteering to be on a politically charged committee.
