The temples of Zeus and Hera at Olympia Greece. The temple with its statue of Zeus was one of the seven wonders of the Ancient world. The emperor Theodosius stopped the games as too pagan in 396 or so. His son had his soldiers destroy the temples. Christianity really sucks.

And when they brought them back, they put all the guys in clothes, what gives? It's called gymnastics, not enteimenostics. On the other hand, women can compete now, and there is a lot more event diversity under Christian rule.

I also love ruins. Next week I'll be in Rome for the first time. That's going to be nice. I'm doing all the greatest hits

Pompeii though is the only ruin that really looks like you’re in a real Roman town. It’s amazing. A few hours train ride south.

Cool. I'll prioritise it. Any more tips?

Try every flavor of gelato. Never cross the street alone, wait til a whole bunch of people are doing it with you. If you're willing to leave town a bit, Ostia Antica is a well-preserved Roman ruin with something of the Pompeii feel without the Pompeii crowds.
