Here's an awesome interview with the historian Ada Palmer about the Rennaisance. She explains the context. But also how it developes. That was the most interesting thing imho. The early Rennaisance educated philosopher princes didn't lead to peace and prosperity. It led to Machiavelli (late Rennaisance).
